This prison island tour offers nature, history, and adventure combined in a relaxing, enjoying the beautiful and nice beach, feeding giant Aldabra tortoise and colored fish and corals for snorkeling in the channel of the Indian Ocean, on this small islet just off the Stone Town, it is launched from the city. It involves a 30-minute motorized boat ride to the “Prison” island. The British; First Minister of Zanzibar, Lloyd Mathews, purchased the island in 1893 and constructed a prison complex there. No prisoners were ever housed on the island, instead, it became a quarantine; station for yellow fever cases.
